Dubai: Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Pakistan’s envoy to the United Arab Emirates, addressed the North London Collegiate School Dubai Model United Nations Conference, emphasizing the significance of youth engagement in international relations.
During the opening ceremony, Ambassador Tirmizi was welcomed by Jonathan Locke, Principal of NLCS Dubai, along with student delegates and faculty members. He expressed gratitude to Fatima Tariq, the conference’s Director General, for the invitation and lauded the school’s efforts in promoting critical thinking and global citizenship.
The NLCSDMUN Conference, hosted by North London Collegiate School Dubai, gathers student delegates to discuss global challenges through diplomacy. This year’s theme is “Strengthening International Cooperation for Peace and Security.”
In his keynote address titled “Pakistan’s Role in Global Diplomacy, Multilateral Cooperation & the Importance of Youth Engagement in International Relations,” Ambassador Tirmizi stressed the importance of dialogue and collaboration to address issues like conflict, climate change, and poverty.
He highlighted Pakistan’s dedication to multilateralism and its active role in global peacekeeping. Addressing climate change, he mentioned Pakistan’s challenges with melting glaciers and floods, urging young delegates to lead in sustainability efforts.
Ambassador Tirmizi praised the UAE for its successful multilateralism, where people from over 190 nationalities coexist peacefully. He pointed to the UAE’s inclusive society as a model for mutual respect and interfaith dialogue.
Encouraging students to consider careers in diplomacy, the Ambassador stressed the impact they can have either within their nations or through international organizations.
The address concluded with a Q&A session, where Ambassador Tirmizi engaged with students on topics such as Pakistan’s foreign policy and the role of youth in global affairs.
