Islamabad: Ambassador (R) Farukh Amil, Chair of IPO-Pakistan, highlighted the essential role of intellectual property (IP) in enhancing national security and driving economic prosperity during a strategic meeting with Ambassador (Retd) Qazi M Khalilullah, Executive Director of the Center for International Strategic Studies Sindh (CISSS).
According to Press Information Department, Ambassador Amil stressed that a robust intellectual property system is crucial for attracting investments, fostering entrepreneurship, and safeguarding innovations in strategic technologies. He noted, “The effective protection and management of intellectual property is essential for a nation’s economic and national security,” emphasizing that IP encourages innovation, attracts foreign investment, and builds a competitive edge in the global market.
The meeting, attended by key officials from CISSS and IPO-Pakistan, also included discussions on the critical role of IP in the development of strategic industries such as telecommunications, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. Participants, including Mr. Aftab Hussain, Director Research at CISSS, and Ms. Saima Kanwal, Senior Patent Examiner at IPO-Pakistan, examined the implications of intellectual property in the knowledge economy and its effects on national security and economic prosperity.
Ambassador Khalilullah expressed interest in further collaboration between CISSS and IPO-Pakistan to strengthen IP regimes and promote research and development in strategic technologies. He remarked, “This collaboration will help to identify and protect innovation and intellectual property in strategic sectors, ultimately contributing to the economic growth and national security of Pakistan.”
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to continue exploring opportunities for cooperation and to work jointly on enhancing intellectual property protection and innovation in Pakistan.
