New York: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, addressed the UN Security Council on the pressing issue of terrorism’s impact on global peace. Ahmad highlighted the proliferation of terrorist groups in Afghanistan, stressing the need for urgent international intervention and accountability measures directed towards the Taliban regime.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Ahmad emphasized the role of a permissive environment in Afghanistan that allows terrorist organizations such as the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), ISIL-K, and various Al Qaeda affiliates to operate with relative freedom. He called for the international community to address what he described as an “increasingly dangerous terrorist threat” emanating from the region, advocating for the Taliban to uphold their obligations to prevent Afghan soil from being a launchpad for attacks against other states, including Pakistan.

On the issue of Kashmir, Ahmad drew attention to the seventh anniversary of what Pakistan views as unlawful measures in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He condemned what he termed “state terrorism” by a large Indian military presence in the region, accusing it of imposing severe suffering on the Kashmiri population. Ahmad urged for zero tolerance towards such actions and cautioned against the misuse of counter-terrorism efforts as a means to suppress legitimate struggles for self-determination.
