Srinagar: The All India Lawyers Union (AILU) has expressed strong disapproval of the recent arrest and detention of Nazir Ahmed Ronga, a senior advocate and President of the High Court Bar Association in Srinagar, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Advocate Ronga was taken into custody at his home last Thursday and subsequently detained under the controversial Public Safety Act (PSA). Following his arrest, he was moved to Kot Bhalwal jail in Jammu. The timing of Ronga’s arrest coincides with the announcement of upcoming elections for the Bar Association, prompting concerns about potential interference with democratic procedures.
The AILU has criticized the arrest as “highly disturbing and condemnable,” labeling it a suppression of dissent and an example of the ongoing oppressive tactics employed by the Modi-led BJP government. The union also declared its solidarity with the legal community and the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir who are protesting this and similar actions.
