Akhuwat Foundation’s Chairman Dr. Amjad Saqib Meets IG Punjab to Discuss Role of Police Tahaffuz Marakaz

Karachi, Chairman of Akhuwat Foundation, Dr. Amjad Saqib, visited the Central Police Office for a meeting with IG Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, where they discussed the vital role and future sustainability of the Police Tahaffuz Marakaz. These centers play a key role in assisting citizens dealing with social issues across Punjab.

According to Punjab Police, during the meeting, IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar briefed Dr. Amjad Saqib on the objectives, importance, and functioning of the Police Tahaffuz Marakaz. He elaborated on the marakaz’s significant contributions to supporting the neglected, destitute, and exploited segments of society, including providing help and rehabilitation to homeless children, women victims of violence, transgenders, drug addicts, and mentally ill individuals. Notably, transgenders have been appointed as Victim Support Officers in these centers, with three in Lahore and one in each district of the province.

Dr. Amjad Saqib appreciated the performance and services of the Tahaffuz Centers and presented concrete suggestions for maintaining these services sustainably. The meeting also focused on establishing an advisory board for funding mechanisms, legal, and institutional support to ensure the ongoing operation of these centers.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the potential appointment of the Chief Minister of Punjab as the Patron-in-Chief of the Tahaffuz Centers and the election of members in the style of a Board of Governors. Discussions also centered on creating a network at the district level to sustain the activities of the Tahaffuz Centers and defining the responsibilities of stakeholders.

The presence of senior police officials, including AIG Inspection Shaista Nadeem, SDPO Gulberg ASP Syed Shaherbano Naqvi, and SDPO Shahdara ASP Syed Ihsanullah, highlighted the significance of this meeting in enhancing the support system for vulnerable communities in Punjab.

This collaboration between Akhuwat Foundation and Punjab Police signifies a concerted effort to strengthen community support services, focusing on holistic care and rehabilitation for those in need.
