AJK President appeals to take Yasin Malik’s case to ICJ

Islamabad, June 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Barrister Sultan Mahmood has said that the government of Pakistan should raise its voice in the International Court of Justice against the denial of the right to a fair trial of Kashmiri leader Yasin Malik and the life sentence imposed on him by an Indian court.

During a press conference with Yasin Malik’s wife Mashaal Malik, Barrister Sultan Mahmood said the matter needs to be taken up in the International Court of Justice. He said there are only 22 days left within which an appeal against the sentence of Yasin Malik can be filed in the ICJ. If we fail in this matter then history will not forgive us, he said.

Barrister Sultan Mehmood said only member countries have the right to file an appeal in the ICJ, therefore the government of AJK cannot file an appeal in the ICJ. He said that it was high time that the issue was taken up in ICJ, UN Human Rights Council and other relevant bodies. On the occasion, Mashaal Hussain Malik said that it was necessary to approach the ICJ against the sentencing of Yasin Malik as he is not a resident of India but he is being punished under Indian law.
