Rawalakot, October 04, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Sardar Tanvir Ilayas Khan and the US Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Bloom, today, discussed a wide-range agenda including the Kashmir dispute.
During a meeting held at his personal residence in Rawalakot, the AJK Prime Minister drew the attention of the American ambassador towards the worsening situation in Indian illegally occupied Kashmir. He appealed to the US to play its much-needed role in resolving the lingering Kashmir dispute, which has been the main cause of human rights violations in the region. They also discussed wide-ranging issues including Kashmir as well as the development of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
A proposal about the establishment of a special economic zone, dry port, investment in tourism and the hydel sector in AJK was presented to the US envoy. The proposal maintained that there was a large scope of human resources in AJK, which can be utilized to provide outsource services, consultancy and IT services. It further mentioned the role of Small and Medium Enterprises and Arts and Crafts in improving the economy of the region.
The proposal referred to the highest literacy rate of AJK and stressed the need for starting academic exchange programs between AJK and American universities. The US ambassador was also informed about the scope and potential of tourism in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The AJK Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude to the US government for its aid and assistance it had provided in relief and rehabilitation of quake victims in 2005. The AJK government also appealed for an increase in the USAID program and assistance to the recent flood victims, protection of the archaeological sites in Azad Kashmir and the damage caused by climate change.
