AJK Government Launches Initiative to Revive Ailing Industrial Units

Muzaffarabad, In an effort to rejuvenate its faltering industrial sector, the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has launched a comprehensive plan to revive distressed industrial units in the districts of Mirpur and Bhimbher.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the initiative was crafted in response to the growing concerns within the local business community, particularly from industrial stakeholders who have been vocal about the challenges hindering their operations. The AJK government has formed a high-level committee to tackle these issues, which includes representatives from the departments of commerce and industry, electricity, finance, and taxation.

This committee is tasked with identifying the root causes of the industrial downturn and developing strategies to address these problems effectively. It will focus particularly on key local industries such as Sericulture, nut wood carving, furniture, carpet weaving, and Kashmiri rugs, which are significant to the region’s economic identity and heritage.

A recent meeting convened by the AJK Department of Commerce and Industry brought together government officials and owners of the sick industrial units to outline and discuss potential revival strategies. During this session, unit owners laid out various proposals and affirmed their readiness to restart operations pending the necessary support from the government, which is keen on aligning these efforts with its broader policy to stimulate industrial growth and employment.

The revival plan not only aims to restore these units to operational status but also seeks to ensure sustainable practices that can support the long-term viability of the industries and the broader economic landscape of AJK.
