Colombo: The “ABU Media and Culture Days” Conference began in Colombo, Sri Lanka, drawing media professionals, policymakers, and experts from across the Asia-Pacific region to discuss the evolving role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in media. The two-day event aims to address both the opportunities and challenges AI presents in content creation, journalism ethics, and audience engagement.
The conference features a series of keynote addresses and expert presentations from representatives of ABU member states. These are followed by panel discussions that include media practitioners, legal experts, and technology specialists. The sessions focus on how broadcasters and news organizations can responsibly adopt AI while maintaining editorial integrity and public trust.
Pakistan’s representation at the conference comes from the Director General of Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation, Mr. Saeed Ahmed Shaikh. His participation underscores the regional interest in collaborative approaches to understanding emerging media technologies.
The event is co-hosted by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), Radio Romania, and two major Sri Lankan media groups, MTV and CMG. This collaboration reflects a growing regional commitment to ethical media innovation and the development of shared frameworks to address the impact of AI in media.
