Islamabad: Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing challenges faced by the Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project and the Diamer Bhasha Dam projects, enhancing their benefits for the nation. Chairing a meeting in Islamabad, he emphasized the need for overcoming obstacles to ensure the successful implementation of these crucial infrastructure projects.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal directed relevant authorities to expedite repair work on the Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project. He also instructed the development of a detailed plan grounded in scientific studies to offer a sustainable solution, thereby ensuring long-term stability and maximizing the value of the investment. The meeting underscored the importance of these directives as pivotal steps towards advancing the project’s progress.
The session also discussed the Diamer Bhasha Dam, highlighting its capacity to store water for irrigation, play a role in flood management, and generate 4,500 megawatts of electricity. The Planning Minister stressed the urgency of resolving land-related issues to facilitate the commencement of the project, underlining the potential impact of these projects on the country’s energy and water resources.
The meeting concluded with a focus on the strategic importance of both projects for national development, urging a concerted effort from all stakeholders to address the challenges and expedite the projects’ completion.
