Keti Bandar: Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, inaugurated the federal government’s segment of the Sindh Coastal Highway near Keti Bandar, Thatta, highlighting its potential as a gateway to development. The project is poised to enhance connectivity and promote economic opportunities in the region.
According to Ministry of Planning Development and Special Initiatives, the inauguration was attended by key officials from Sindh’s government and relevant departments. The project, approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on June 27, 2023, entails a total cost of Rs 16,204.303 million. With a PSDP allocation of Rs 3,000 million for 2024-2025, the highway will span 36 kilometers, featuring a 14.5-meter total formation width and a 7.3-meter wide two-lane carriageway.
Speaking at the site, Ahsan Iqbal emphasized that the Sindh Coastal Highway is a joint effort between federal and Sindh governments, with the federal body financing a 37-kilometer stretch. He noted the highway’s role in protecting land from rising sea levels and fostering industrial growth. Iqbal reiterated the federal commitment to Sindh’s development, assuring that political differences have not hindered cooperative efforts.
The minister criticized past political disruptions, stating that they harmed the economy, and affirmed a focus on evidence-based progress. He dismissed claims of neglect towards Sindh, citing completed infrastructural projects and promising further developments.
On water management, Iqbal confirmed adherence to the 1991 Water Accord, underscoring equitable distribution among provinces. He concluded by affirming the federal government’s collaboration with Sindh to improve coastal regions, envisioning a thriving Sindh alongside the rest of Pakistan.
