Islamabad: Minister for Planning and Chairman of the National Logistics Board, Ahsan Iqbal, has instructed the National Logistics Corporation (NLC) to give precedence to the expansion of the Sost Dry Port and the establishment of the Khunjerab Border Terminal. These projects are intended to function as strategic hubs to bolster Pakistan’s exports and enhance regional trade connectivity.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ahsan Iqbal issued these directives during the 68th meeting of the National Logistics Board held in Islamabad. He underscored the importance of an efficient, integrated, and technology-driven logistics system as essential for achieving export-led growth, increasing industrial competitiveness, attracting investment, and strengthening regional ties under the government’s URAAN Pakistan initiative.

The Minister highlighted that improving logistics is a national economic imperative to position Pakistan as a regional connectivity hub linking South Asia, Central Asia, China, and the Middle East. He also advocated for the establishment of a driving academy that meets international standards to train skilled drivers for global markets, with an emphasis on equipping trainees with foreign language skills to facilitate cross-border trade and logistics, particularly under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Furthermore, Ahsan Iqbal commended NLC’s efforts in modernizing Pakistan’s logistics sector, urging for accelerated efforts to eliminate bottlenecks and develop a logistics system that supports higher exports and sustainable economic growth. During the meeting, the Board received updates on NLC’s progress in promoting regional connectivity, including the establishment of Forward Transit Trade Hubs in Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and China. Additionally, new initiatives aimed at strengthening logistics infrastructure and enhancing the value addition and exports of agricultural products were discussed.
