Ahsan Iqbal Calls for Global Cooperation Ahead of COP29

Islamabad: Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the urgent necessity for global collaboration to address the escalating climate crisis during a high-level meeting. The meeting was held in preparation for the forthcoming UN Climate Change Conference COP29, scheduled to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan next month.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ahsan Iqbal underscored Pakistan’s acute vulnerability to climate change, with recent floods highlighting the country’s position as a significant case study in climate resilience and adaptation. He noted that despite the catastrophic floods of 2010 and 2022, the resilience of the Pakistani nation has been unmatched. However, he stressed that the magnitude of these challenges surpasses Pakistan’s capacity, necessitating immediate international assistance.

In relation to COP 2024, the Minister stressed the importance of policy initiatives to foster regional cooperation. He instructed the organization of a roundtable conference that would include environmental experts, international specialists, and organizations to examine collaborative environmental strategies.
