Islamabad: Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema has urged for increased cooperation between Pakistan and the Czech Republic in critical sectors such as renewable energy, information technology, healthcare, mining, and green technologies. He made these remarks during a meeting with Ladislav Steinhubel, the Czech Republic’s Ambassador to Pakistan, in Islamabad.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Cheema highlighted the current trade volume between the two countries, which stands at $84 million for the current fiscal year, and stressed the need for closer economic collaboration to enhance this figure. He also pointed out the potential for joint exploration of Electric Vehicle (EV) manufacturing in Pakistan, hoping for Czech involvement in establishing EV manufacturing plants.
The Minister welcomed the activation of the Agreement on Economic Cooperation between Pakistan and the Czech Republic, effective from June 1, 2024, after all necessary procedures and formalities were completed. This agreement aims to strengthen bilateral relations and open new opportunities for cooperation in various sectors, including energy, technology, and healthcare.
Cheema also underscored the significance of educational exchange and manpower supply for strengthening ties. He expressed anticipation for the inaugural session of the Pak-Czech Joint Ministerial Commission, scheduled for April next year in Islamabad.
Ambassador Steinhubel conveyed the Czech Republic’s commitment to bolstering ties with Pakistan and expressed optimism that the upcoming Joint Ministerial Commission session will significantly advance economic and trade relations between the two nations.
