ADB Reaffirms Support for Pakistan’s Economic Initiatives

Islamabad, The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has pledged ongoing support for Pakistan’s economic reform and development efforts.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa confirmed the bank’s commitment during a meeting with Pakistani officials in Tbilisi, lauding the government’s stabilization measures and expressing support for projects that enhance public-private partnerships, climate resilience, domestic resource mobilization, women’s financial inclusion, and energy sector reforms.

Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, leading the Pakistani delegation, called on the ADB to focus additional resources on impactful interventions, particularly in climate-sensitive actions for vulnerable nations. Cheema, in his address to the ADB’s Board of Governors, emphasized Pakistan’s determination to unlock economic growth and noted the ongoing economic consolidation with improvements in inflation rates and economic recovery signs.

The meetings in Tbilisi also included discussions with leaders from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the European Investment Bank, as well as bilateral development partners from the United Kingdom, Germany, and the USA. These discussions aimed to strengthen cooperation in critical areas such as digital taxation systems, energy infrastructure, and climate change initiatives.
