Lahore, A delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), led by Country Director for the Progress Review Mission, Mr. Yong Ye, met with the Chairman of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), Engr Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (Retd), to discuss financial assistance for various water and hydropower projects. The meeting, which took place in Lahore, was part of the ADB’s Country Portfolio Review mission to Pakistan and focused on financing arrangements for critical projects such as the Kurram Tangi Dam Stage-II, Naulong Dam, and Pattan Hydropower Project.
According to Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority, the session marked the conclusion of the ADB Mission’s visit, aimed at evaluating the progress and financing of WAPDA’s key projects. The discussion included WAPDA’s Member (Finance), Member (Water), and several General Managers who oversee water, hydro planning, and regional projects. The ADB Mission was informed about WAPDA’s development portfolio, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to green strategies for Pakistan’s sustained economic growth. This approach aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) and focuses on ensuring water, food, and energy adequacy.
WAPDA highlighted the status of major projects, including the Naulong Dam, Kurram Tangi Dam Stage-II, and Pattan Hydropower Project, and presented other significant initiatives such as the Mohmand Dam, Diamer Basha Dam, Dasu Hydropower Project Stage I and II, and Atta Abad Lake Hydropower Project for ADB’s consideration for financial support.
The meeting began with the WAPDA Chairman expressing gratitude towards the ADB for its ongoing support in the water and hydropower sectors. He voiced optimism about receiving further financial assistance for projects within WAPDA’s development portfolio, underscoring the critical role of such collaborations in advancing Pakistan’s infrastructure development and economic growth.
