Activist Er Ehtisham Khan Calls for Reevaluation of J and K Reservation Policy

Srinagar: Er Ehtisham Khan, a prominent activist and Senior Vice President of the NGO The Purpose, has voiced significant concerns regarding the amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004, urging MPs to address what he terms a discriminatory policy.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Khan highlighted the plight of open merit students who, despite constituting about 70% of the population, receive a minimal share of opportunities in government employment and education due to the new reservation policy. Despite prior appeals to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, the concerns remain unaddressed, prompting a group of affected students to seek Khan’s support.

These students, particularly anxious about the upcoming NEET UG 2024 examination, fear the policy’s implications on their future prospects. Khan is now calling for intervention from Jammu and Kashmir’s Members of Parliament to advocate for these students’ concerns in the Indian Parliament.
