Islamabad: Acting President of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, attended a reception hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to commemorate the 5th Anniversary of Azerbaijan’s Victory Day. The event, held in Islamabad, was attended by dignitaries, members of the diplomatic corps, and distinguished guests, including the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, Mr. Khazar Farhadov.
In his remarks, Acting President Gilani extended warm felicitations to the Government and people of Azerbaijan. He described the Victory Day as a proud chapter in Azerbaijan’s modern history, celebrating the values of courage, unity, and justice. Gilani emphasized that the day symbolizes Azerbaijan’s reaffirmation of its sovereignty, attributing this to the visionary leadership that guided the nation.
Gilani highlighted the historic and fraternal ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, rooted in mutual trust and shared aspirations. He noted that this partnership has deep civilizational roots, illustrated by the 14th-century Multani Caravanserai in Baku, which signifies centuries-old socio-economic and cultural connections.
Reflecting on his recent visits to Azerbaijan, Gilani expressed gratitude for the warmth and hospitality received. He lauded the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev and Speaker Sahiba Gafarova, describing them as trusted partners of Pakistan. Gilani also emphasized the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening bilateral ties.
The Acting President noted the expansion of bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, defense, and education. He asserted that the partnership between the two nations is both strategic and fraternal, grounded in shared principles of respect and justice.
Gilani paid tribute to the resilience and progress of the Azerbaijani people, viewing Azerbaijan’s story as an inspiration for peace and fairness. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to work closely with Azerbaijan for a more stable and prosperous region.
The evening concluded with Gilani’s proclamation of the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, to the applause of the audience.
