Islamabad: In a significant meeting at Aiwan-e-Sadr on November 1, 2024, Acting President Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani emphasized the adoption of international best practices and advanced technologies to enhance governance in Pakistan. He addressed a delegation from the 36th Senior Management Course at the National Institute of Public Administration, Karachi, underlining the necessity for digital governance and artificial intelligence to boost efficiency and service delivery across the country.

According to Senate of Pakistan, the Acting President’s discussion with the bureaucrats highlighted the array of challenges facing Pakistan, including economic instability, high inflation, unemployment, and social inequalities. Gilani called on the bureaucracy to innovate and take proactive measures to drive the nation towards sustainable solutions, positioning Pakistan as a competitive, forward-thinking country on the international stage.

Gilani’s dialogue with the delegation covered a range of strategic issues, from enhancing digital governance to leveraging bureaucracy’s role in navigating Pakistan through its socioeconomic and governance challenges. He stressed the importance of empathy, humility, and service orientation in government roles, advising bureaucrats to stay informed and adapt to global trends and advancements.

Responding to questions, Gilani referenced the increased autonomy and funding for provinces following the 18th Amendment and the NFC Award. He also addressed the 26th Constitutional Amendment, reaffirming the Parliament’s authority to amend the constitution in the country’s best interest, and criticized foreign interference in Pakistan’s domestic affairs.

On security issues, particularly in Balochistan, the Acting President condemned the actions of anti-Pakistan elements that deter investment and disrupt regional development. He recalled his tenure as Prime Minister, during which he launched and implemented the Aaghaz-e-Huqooq-e-Balochistan initiative, increasing the province’s funds and royalties to aid in its development.

Gilani’s engagement with future policy leaders reflects a crucial acknowledgment of the evolving demands on governance structures, urging a blend of traditional civil service virtues with modern administrative skills to navigate the complex landscape of national administration.
