Lahore, August 02, 2023 (PPI-OT): The ongoing three days training session of Transgender Victim Support Officers working in Police Protection Centers in collaboration with Punjab Police, United States Institute of Peace (USIP) and non-governmental organization has ended at a local hotel in Lahore.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar was the chief guest of the event while former Additional IGP Sarmad Saeed was a special guest. IG Punjab awarded certificates to 40 transgender victim support officers who completed the three days training held from July 31 to August 2. Speaking at the event, IG Punjab said that transgender are an important part of the society who are playing their role in the development of the country. Prove yourself as a better and stronger citizen of the society. IG Punjab Dr. Usman further said that transgender are not less than anyone else, they should prove themselves as better and stronger citizens of the society by doing good actions.
IG Punjab further said that steps are being taken to provide social security to transgender, they will be given priority in jobs under quota in the police department. Dr. Usman Anwar further said that the protection centers of the Punjab Police are internationally recognized and play the most important role in providing legal assistance to the oppressed and affected sections. IG Punjab added that Police Khidmat / Tahaffuz Marakaz are being linked with police Khidmat counters of hospitals, IG Punjab further said that steps are being taken on emergency basis for the welfare of transgender support officers training, shelter and salary package.
During the three days training session, legal, psychological and health experts provided excellent training and guidance to the victim support officers; Dr. Usman Anwar further said that DPOs will organize training seminars for transgender victim support officers in their districts. Former Additional IG Sarmad Saeed and Dr. Sara also addressed the event. DIG Headquarters, DIG Traffic Punjab, DIG Establishment-1, AIG Admin were also present in the event. Representatives from different walks of life and civil society also participated in the training session.
