A meeting between Parliamentary Development Unit and the team of United Nations Women held at Parliament House

Islamabad, December 08, 2021 (PPI-OT):A meeting between Parliamentary Development Unit (PDU) and the team of United Nations Women (UNWOMEN), was held at the Parliament House, Islamabad. The meeting was held with the objective to discuss and explore mutual areas of interest for a potential partnership between the Senate Secretariat and UNWOMEN.

Both teams discussed to explore mutual areas of collaboration on various potential subject matters including; holding sessions for Members and staff on issues of gender-based violence, child marriages, and harassment of women at work places. Sessions on analysis of budget with a gender lens was also discussed. Moreover, the two teams also discussed the possibility of provision and attachment of gender experts with Committees of the Senate.

The UN-Women gave a briefing about their ongoing work in Pakistan and expressed keen interest in engaging Honourable Members of the Senate on gender issues enabling discussion of those issues at the highest policy-level. Both sides agreed to continue the discussion on establishing a partnership governed under a mutually agreed upon Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which will focus on identified priority areas.
