Islamabad, December 09, 2021 (PPI-OT):A delegation of the World Food Program (WFP) led by the Representative and Country Director Mr. Chris Kaye called on the Parliamentary Development Unit (PDU) of the Senate Secretariat led by Mr. Hasnain Haider, Additional Secretary, at the Parliament House, Islamabad. The meeting was held with the objective to discuss and explore areas of mutual interest for a potential partnership between the Senate Secretariat and WFP.
Both teams discussed potential collaboration on various issue of common interest including; holding sessions for Members and staff on issues of social protection, food security and disaster risks for vulnerable segments of the population. Moreover, the two teams also discussed the possibility of provision and attachment of experts on the relevant subjects such as food security and social protection with Committees of the Senate.
Mr. Karim Gabol, Senate Secretariat’s focal person for Parliamentary Development Unit, Peter Holtsberg, Head of Programme at the WFP-Pakistan, and Mr. Tanimoune Mahamadou ScD, Head of Nutrition, Social Protection and Education of WFP-Pakistan also attended the meeting.
The WFP expressed keen interest in engaging Honourable Members of the Senate on humanitarian issues enabling discussion of those issues at the highest policy-level. Both sides agreed to continue the discussion on the possibilities of establishing a partnership possibly governed under a mutually agreed upon Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which will focus on identified priority areas.
