Islamabad: The Islamabad Police has mobilized a substantial security force of 9,500 officers to safeguard the city during the upcoming Independence Day and Chehlum procession events. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi announced the comprehensive security measures during a press briefing at the central Imambargah in G-6.
The security plan, informed by the past five years of arrangements, includes the deployment of 5,000 officers specifically for the Chehlum procession. High-ranking officials and female officers are among those assigned to ensure the event proceeds without incident.
Sniper commandos have been strategically placed on rooftops along the procession route, and a strict ban on flying private drones has been enforced to maintain security. Special units from the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), police, and Rangers are positioned at key locations, supported by Quick Response Force teams ready to respond to any emergencies.
A modern digital surveillance system is in place citywide, bolstered by the Safe City project and mobile control rooms. These measures aim to monitor and manage the situation effectively.
In anticipation of the Independence Day celebrations, additional security personnel have been arranged, bringing the total to over 9,500 officers tasked with maintaining peace in Islamabad. Search operations and multiple rounds of sweeping have been conducted along the Chehlum procession route to enhance safety.
To facilitate the event, entry points have been increased, and the public is encouraged to cooperate with the police by reporting any suspicious activities. The emergency helpline Pucar-15 is available for immediate assistance.
These efforts are designed to ensure the safety and convenience of citizens during the events, reinforcing the commitment of the Islamabad Police to maintaining public order.
