71st day: Kashmiri Pandit employees’ protest for relocation continues

Srinagar, July 22, 2022 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the protest by Kashmiri Pandit employees to press for their demand of relocation outside the Kashmir Valley entered 71st day, today. The Pandit employees along with their families have been sitting on the roadside in the Vessu area of Islamabad district and at other places in the Valley, demanding their relocation in the wake of spurt in target killings.

The protest by the Pandit employees started on May 12 when their colleague and community fellow Rahul Butt was killed by unknown gunmen in Chadoora town in Budgam district. Demanding justice, Kashmiri Pandits employed under the Indian PM’s package have been holding protests since then.

The fear-stricken employees said their protests will continue till their demands are not met, adding they should either be relocated or the authorities should give them a breathing time till complete normalcy is achieved in the valley. They have rejected the authorities’ decision to shift them to district and tehsil headquarters within the valley, saying until the target killings do not stop, they will not go to their offices.

Terming the situation of the employees as worrisome, National Conference (NC) Pandit leader Umesh Talashi said, unfortunately the plight of Kashmiri Pandits under the current regime has worsened. He said that the Pandit employees were living on roads in the Kashmir Valley and urged the authorities to address their issues on priority basis.
