5 Hindu yatris from Indian state AP reported missing in IIOJK Amarnath tragedy

Amaravati, July 10, 2022 (PPI-OT):At least five Indian Amarnath Yatris, including two women, from Indian Andhra Pradesh were reported missing in the cloudburst and flash flood near the Amarnath cave in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The five pilgrims, belonging to different towns of Indian AP state, remained “untraced” after the tragedy in Amaranth, the AP state government said.

The Andhra Pradesh government dispatched AP Bhavan additional resident commissioner Himanshu Kaushik to Srinagar to coordinate with the local authorities and ensure safety of AP pilgrims, an official release said. Pertinently, at least 16 bodies have been found after the flash flood triggered by a cloudburst near the Amarnath cave while the death toll is likely to go up as near about 40 Indian Hindu yatris are still missing, an official said in Srinagar.

I saw people crying for help,” said an Indian Hindu yatri, Shubam Garg, who walked down 15 km during the night to reach Baltal base camp. He said he saw mud and water burying a group of yatris resting in a tent, besides two ponywalas and an Indian Army officer. “I wish no one has to witness the horror that transpired in front of my eyes yesterday,” he added.
