45 injured in use of brute force by police on protesting students in Manipur

Imphal, September 27, 2023 (PPI-OT): As many as 45 students were injured in Imphal Valley of the Indian state of Manipur due to use of teargas shells and baton-charge on the students protesting against the killing of two youths who were allegedly kidnapped in July.

According to Kashmir Media Service, students of schools and colleges held protest rallies hours after photos of the bodies of the two youths went viral on social media. The protesters clashed with the police in Imphal East district when the security forces stopped them from advancing towards the secretariat. The police resorted to teargas shelling and lathi-charge to disperse the protesters resulting in the injuries to at least 45 students.

The authorities have ordered the closure of all schools in the state till Friday in view of the prevailing situation. The state government reimposed the ban on the Internet for the next five days.
