250 Dalits convert to Buddhism after facing violence from upper caste Hindus

Jaipur, October 25, 2022 (PPI-OT): Fed up of the caste based violence across India, a group of around 250 Dalits in Rajasthan converted to Buddhism. Besides converting to Buddhism, the members of Dalit families from Bhulon village in Baran district of Rajasthan also immersed the idols and pictures of dieities into Baithali River of the village.

One of the newly convert Buddhist Rajendra told media that they were not allowed to visit temples and worship, so they had no reason to follow such a religion as they were not considered as Hindus. The Dalit families converted to Buddhism after husband of the village chief attacked some members of the Dalit families for worshipping goddess Durga during the Navaratri festival. The Dalits tried to lodge the complaint against the attacker but police refused to do so. During the assault, the upper caste Hindus said that members of lower castes have no right to worship Hindus deities.
