Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has firmly rejected the Indian National Education Policy (NEP), asserting that the state will not tolerate what he termed as “Hindi colonialism.”
According to Kashmir Media Service, Stalin took to social media to respond to the actions of India’s Education Minister. “He dared to threaten an entire state to accept Hindi imposition, and now he faces the consequences of reviving a fight he can never win. Tamil Nadu will not be blackmailed into surrendering,” Stalin declared.
Stalin highlighted the state’s achievements, pointing out that Tamil Nadu has already reached many goals set by the NEP, which the policy aims to achieve by 2030. This, he suggested, undermines the need for the policy’s imposition on the state.
The Chief Minister also criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) three-language formula, labeling it as ‘a laughing stock’ in Tamil Nadu. He issued a challenge to the BJP to make Hindi imposition their core agenda in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections, suggesting it could serve as a referendum on the issue.
Stalin concluded with a historical perspective, noting that past attempts to impose Hindi in Tamil Nadu have been met with resistance. “History is clear. Those who tried to impose Hindi on Tamil Nadu have either been defeated or later changed their stance and aligned with DMK,” he stated. He warned against replacing British colonialism with what he described as Hindi colonialism, asserting that Hindi imposition stifles non-Hindi speakers, who make up the majority in India.
