New Delhi: Loudspeakers were removed from a mosque in Uttar Pradesh, India, under the administration of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, due to noise regulation violations. The incident led to a case being registered against the mosque’s Imam.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a police official confirmed the removal of the loudspeakers from the mosque located in Sambhal district. The action was taken due to the “violation of rules” concerning noise control at places of worship.
The case against the Imam was reported by beat constable Jitender Kumar, as documented in the FIR. The Imam, identified as Shakeel Shamsi, son of Abdul Shamad Shamsi, was named in the report.
In 2022, the Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, issued an order to restrict the use of loudspeakers at religious sites, a move perceived by some as targeting the Muslim community.
