Lahore: In a message commemorating International Women’s Day, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif paid tribute to the women of Punjab, emphasizing their role as vital contributors to societal development.
According to Chief Minister of Punjab, Sharif remarked on the historical significance of women’s rights in Islam, referencing the respect and honor given to women by the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW). She stressed the importance of equal opportunities in education, employment, and development as essential to advancing women’s roles in society.
Sharif highlighted her own role as a female leader, viewing it as a reflection of the potential success of women across the province. She pointed to the appointment of female officers in various divisions and districts as evidence of ongoing empowerment efforts.
The chief minister noted the achievements of women in fields such as law enforcement, expressing pride in their progress and dedication. She declared the safety and rights of women and children as a personal and governmental priority, mentioning initiatives like the virtual police station, Women’s Helpline, and Panic Button Project to ensure legal protection.
Among the initiatives, Sharif outlined the provision of hostels for working women and the launch of an e-bike scheme to facilitate women’s mobility. The Honhar Scholarship Program, offering 60% of scholarships to female students, was highlighted as a step towards educational equity.
Sharif also discussed efforts to support women through mass marriage programs, minority financial assistance, and economic independence initiatives like the Livestock Program and interest-free loans for housing. She emphasized ongoing support for women entrepreneurs through business finance programs.
Further, she underscored the provision of sports opportunities and modern technology access through the Pink Games and Laptop Scheme. Sharif reiterated her commitment to a Punjab free from discrimination against women, vowing to protect and uplift them as a governmental priority.
The chief minister closed her message by affirming her dedication to the women of Punjab, promising to serve as both their protector and ally in their pursuit of respect and prosperity.
