Srinagar: Heated exchanges erupted in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir Assembly as members of the National Conference and other parties accused New Delhi of hushing up the recent Kathua killings and the controversial fashion show in Gulmarg.
According to Kashmir Media Service, opposition BJP members briefly mentioned the Kathua killings and insisted on continuing the Question Hour. This prompted strong objections from National Conference, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and Independent MLAs, who demanded an inquiry. They argued that India, being in control of law and order in the territory, must account for the deaths.
The bodies of three missing civilians, last seen on March 5 in Billawar, were recovered from a waterbody in Kathua on Saturday. The discovery has raised serious concerns among the opposition parties.
The MLAs also condemned the fashion show held in Gulmarg during Ramadan, labeling it an insult to public sentiment. The assembly witnessed a 25-minute uproar, with Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather making efforts to restore order.
