Islamabad: Speakers at a seminar in Islamabad have voiced their concerns about the situation faced by women in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). They have called upon the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the international community to take action against Indian troops accused of abuses against Kashmiri women.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the seminar was organized by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter, coinciding with International Women’s Day. The event was chaired by senior diplomat Niala Chohan.
Speakers highlighted the role of Kashmiri women in the freedom struggle, noting that they have endured significant hardships, including the use of rape as a weapon of war by occupying forces.
They pointed to incidents from Kunan Poshpora to Shopian as examples of brutality inflicted by Indian forces. Additionally, they mentioned the disappearances and killings of thousands of Kashmiri men since 1989, leaving their wives in a state of uncertainty about their husbands’ fates, often referred to as “half-widows.”
