Lahore: Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, has committed to modernizing all institutions under the Ministry of Information. This announcement was made during the oath-taking ceremony of the newly-elected officers of the APP Employees Union at the PBC Broadcasting House.
According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Minister emphasized the ongoing digitization efforts at Pakistan Television Corporation, Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation, and the Associated Press of Pakistan. The modernization process involves the adoption of the latest technologies and the introduction of reforms across these institutions.
A significant step in this modernization effort is the recent establishment of a Digital Department, integrated with Artificial Intelligence. The Minister highlighted the department’s role in advancing the ministry’s operations.
Addressing the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), Tarar stated that the law aims to protect journalists and prevent harassment and other crimes. He invited relevant stakeholders to engage in discussions to improve the legislation.
In a move to further safeguard digital media, a Digital Media Protection Authority is being established. This authority will include representation from the journalists’ community and the private sector.
The Minister also acknowledged Radio Pakistan’s crucial role in unifying the nation during wars and other critical situations. Following the ceremony, he toured various studios of Radio Pakistan with Director General PBC, Saeed Ahmed Sheikh.
